Darby Graham is back in town. It's been over a decade but her mom is home and she's come back. Never mind why she left, why she has never felt like she could move back. Pierce Kendrick still lives in the town. With his two kids. The one's he had with the woman Darby hates-Connie Webber.
Pierce Kendrick knows that the woman whose chocolates are the talk of the town is Darby Graham. She's come back to town and he's not sure how he feels about it. She left him years ago. He's moved on and he still hasn't forgiven her. His life is complicated, his baby mama Connie, is a money hungry witch. But he adores Cole and Maya and he does all he can to keep her in the life style she wants and keeps her at bay.
But his life is about to get turned upside down. The first time Pierce and Darby meet again is explosive. There is so much resentment for both of them and it's been such a long time. So many secrets, and so many feelings.
Both their families play a big part in their history and their lives. They each have their secrets too.
You know this is all going to blow up in everyone's face. When all the secrets come out will Darby and Graham find their way back to each other?
I felt like this story bounced all around. Without spoiling any plot lines Pierce screwed up twice-big time with regards to his kids. I just couldn't figure out how having made one huge mistake, he would turn around and so quickly do it again.
Connie is hands down, the villain here. She never steps out of that role, and Pierce seems to be an enabler who appeases her to keep her satisfied with the material things he gives her just so she will be a good parent to his kids. Of course she wants more.
I have read most of this author's previous works. She writes crazy angst that in the past, has ripped out my heart. I didn't feel that with this one, there were some sad moments but I had a tough time connecting with both Pierce and Darby. Things moved too quickly, too much family bonding that felt rushed to me. I did appreciate having both POV's from the two main characters. This is book one of a new series, so pay attention to the secondary characters as there will be more stories featuring them.
