SYNOPSIS

She didn’t want to be my wife, but she never had a choice.

The moment my father took his last breath, I knew what would be expected of me.
I’d trained my entire life for the role.
To become The Boss. The head of the Beretta Family.

But I hadn’t known there were conditions.
Three rules to obey.
Three rules standing in the way of becoming King of the underground.

The first two were easy, but it was the third rule that was most problematic.
I had to find someone to marry.
A good Italian woman who wouldn’t distract me. Someone who knew their place. Someone who wouldn’t expect anything of me.

So when Aida turned up—quiet and respectful—I knew she was perfect for the role, whether she wanted it or not.

Vows were promised; lines drawn. And I became the Mafia Boss I’d always known I would be.

Everything was going to plan.
Until I saw her smile at another man.
Until I saw her lay her hand on his chest.

She’d made a mistake.
But maybe I’d underestimated her.
I thought I was getting sweet and innocent. I hadn’t bargained on feisty and opinionated.

We’d been forced into something neither of us wanted.

I may have needed to get married, but that didn’t mean I wanted a wife.

Or did I?

Review by Jen Skewes

After reading her Easton Family Saga Series, I quickly became a fan of Ms. Davies!  I was so excited to see she had a new book realizing. And even more excited to find out it was a mafioa romance, which is one of my fave to read.  Ms. Davies did not disappoint.  It had everything I love when it comes to the mafia, an arranged marriage, a hero who starts out as a douche only for me to love him in the end, a sassy heroine who knows how to put said hero in place, drama, angst and a shocking twist!!  Everything that I love.

Lorenzo is to take over the family business after his father's death.  But what he does not know is that in order to be the new boss of the family he must get married within 10 days.  Lorenzo is not husband material at all, not one to ever settle down and get married. He has no problem getting women, but to find someone to be his wife who can truly play the roll of a Mafia boss's wife may be difficult.  Until Aida walks into his home to deliver groceries.  One look at her and he is completely intrigued and knows she is the perfect woman to become his wife.

Aida's family is approached by Lorenzo's men, making them an incredible offer in exchange for Aida's hand in marriage.  The decision is ultimately hers, but she knows what this means for her family as far as their business goes and financial stability.  There is definitely chemistry between her and Lorenzo, but she sees him for what he is, a mafia boss.  She's not sure what her life will be once she marries him, but she will soon find out how it all will change.

What I loved about this book was Aida.  She is a sassy heroine who regardless of who Lorenzo is, she does her best to not take his crap.  She can be feisty, making the banter between them that much better.  Lorenzo comes off as a big douchebag, for lack of a better word, at first for reasons I will not mention.  But when things start to change, I fell for him.  He has a side to him that not everyone sees.  A side that as a mafia boss, no one can really see.  But with Aida, it's the only way he can show her who he is.  He is more than just the mafia.  That is the one part that I always love about mafia romances.  They can be asshats, and Mae you so frustrated and want to strangle them, but then you see that other side of them and you just melt.

Lorenzo Beretta is a mafia romance that will make your heart pound one minute and your jaw drop the next.  There is enough drama and angst to keep you on the edge of your seat.  A twist that you never saw coming.  Holy crap, I was shocked.  It gave you all the feels, love, hatred, anger, frustration and so much more.  Another job well done by Ms. Davies.  I cannot wait for more of these characters and hoping that we will be getting more.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Abigail Davies grew up with a passion for words, storytelling, maths, and anything pink. Dreaming up characters–quite literally–and talking to them out loud is a daily occurrence for her. She finds it fascinating how a whole world can be built with words alone, and how everyone reads and interprets a story differently. Now following her dreams of writing, Abigail has found the passion that she always knew was there. When she’s not writing: she’s a mother to two daughters who she encourages to use their imagination as she believes that it’s a magical thing, or getting lost in a good book. If she’s doing neither of those things, you can be sure she’s surfing the web buying new makeup, clothes, or binge watching another show as she becomes one with her sofa.
