But what Alayna didn’t figure on is Hudson Pierce, the new owner of the nightclub. He’s smart, rich, and gorgeous—the kind of guy Alayna knows to stay away from if she wants to keep her past tendencies in check. Except, Hudson’s fixed his sights on her. He wants her in his bed and makes no secret of it.
Avoiding him isn’t an option after he offers a business proposition she can’t turn down and she’s drawn further into his universe, unable to resist his gravitational pull. When she learns Hudson has a dark history of his own, she realizes too late that she’s fallen for the worst man she could possibly get involved with. Or maybe their less than ideal pasts give them an opportunity to heal each other and finally find the love their lives have been missing.
4 Star Review by Guest Reviewer Allison East
Alayna was bartending and she felt him watching her.
Her new boss is the most powerful man in the city. But he knew. He knew who she was, and knew exactly what he was willing to ask of her, what kind of favors he wanted from her- he had a proposition for her.
It was how he looked at me, in a way that no man had ever looked at me, a hungry possessiveness present in his stare as if he not only had undressed me in his mind, but had claimed me to be sated by no one ever again except him. it seemed like kismet- lust at first sight though! Alayna had no idea that her boss, was indeed this man- Hudson Pierce.
Her new boss is the most powerful man in the city. But he knew. He knew who she was, and knew exactly what he was willing to ask of her, what kind of favors he wanted from her- he had a proposition for her.
“I’d like to pay you to help me with a problem I believe you’d be perfect for the job.” The whole conversation had my head spinning, but he had my attention. “You win. My curiosity is piqued. “What’s the job?” “I need you to break up an engagement.” “Whose?” He leaned back, his dazzling gray eyes flickering in the strobe lights. “Mine”
Of course, and then I am very intrigued to see if Alayna goes through with it. There is so much sexual tension, she almost has to. I am certain she will, knowing her obsessive streak that she has since tried to tame.
Usually the books I read one of the main characters is seriously flawed. They have problems from their past that haunt them. That was not the case in this book. They are both seriously messed up with the crazies. She kind of crosses the line into obsessive compulsive stalker on all her men from the past. She even has to go to therapy over it. And getting together with Hudson is probably a bad choice from the beginning, because his problem is- he can’t love. He doesn’t promise her that he will love her, but that is what Laynie craves. She was a pretty good female main character and crazy aside, she was really smart. She didn't try to pretend to be perfect. She had been through a lot in her life.
There is definitely a lot of sex. I mean tons- but it didn’t detract from the story, which sometimes can happen. The scenes were explosive from the start.I did not like the character of Hudson’s mother- she was not a nice person, and very mean to Laynie. There is a second book, and it will be worth a read. Not really a typical cliffhanger, but just a promise of a continuation of their story.
