4 star review by Jen Skewes

Torn is the second installment in the Billionaire Bachelor's Club series by Monica Murphy.  When we first met Gage in Crave, the first book, he was making a bet with his two best friends, Asher and Matt.  The bet was to see who would get married first.  The last man standing wins one million dollars.   Asher has already lost that bet and it now seems that Gage is on his way to losing as well.

Gage Emerson is a young, sexy and powerful business man.  He is a real estate mogul who sees what he wants and goes for it, and he usually gets what he wants.  He currently has his eye on a particular piece of property that is located in Napa Valley.  He has tried numerous times to get in touch with the owner, Mr. Knight, but has no luck in reaching him.    One night he attends a business gala in hopes of running into Mr. Knight and trying to convince him to sell.  But instead he meets Marina Knight and Gage is completely taken a back by her.  She is beautiful and sassy and doesn't seem to fall at his feet like most woman do, which makes him want her even more.  What Gage does not realize at the time is that Marina is just the person he needs in order to buy that piece of land.

Marina Knight has just taken over her family's bakery with her Aunt.  She is trying to prove to her family and herself that she is capable of running the bakery and turning it around.  Right now the business is not doing too well and now that Gage Emerson wants to buy the land that her bakery is on she is afraid that she will never get the chance to turn the bakery around.   Her family owns a lot of property in Napa Valley but unfortunately times have changed and they are in need of financial help.  So selling the land makes complete sense.  But Marina does not want to lose the bakery in the process.

Marina and Gage have a lot of chemistry and are definitely attracted to each other.  But they also annoy each other and know how to push each other's buttons.  The bottom line is that while they both admit they like each other they also need each other to further their business.  Marina wants a business meeting with his best friend Archer and Gage wants a meeting with her father.  So they in a sense are using each other to get what they want.  But at some point they start having feelings for each other.  And while Marina is ware of Gage's plans to buy her family's property she decides to just go with her feelings and deal with it.  Because not matter how hard she tries, she cannot deny that she is falling in love with Gage Emerson.

Torn is a fun, sweet, sexy, quick and at times humorous read.  Gage and Marina had great chemistry and when they were actually enjoying each others company their moments together were certainly hot.  There were some secrets that were kept which did cause some issues in their relationship.  I loved the banter back and forth.  I definitely enjoyed Gage and admit he was very sexy and could be very charming.  I loved watching this unlikely couple fall in love.  Great job by Ms. Murphy.

Ten Things Gage Wants You to Know About Marina

There are many things Gage knows about Marina. Some of those things he doesn’t want anyone to know because they’re, ahem, personal. And he doesn’t want to upset Marina by revealing all of her secrets…

So here are the ten things Gage does want you to know about his girl, Marina, from Gage’s point of view:

  • She can be quite scary when she’s angry so I do my best to never, ever make her mad.

  • She’s beautiful when she’s sleeping. She’s beautiful all the time.

  • Family is important to Marina. That’s one of my favorite things about her, how much she adores her family no matter how much they drive her crazy.

  • Her aunt Gina is teaching her how to bake and…she’s sort of terrible at it. But I would never admit that. I just eat what she feeds me and smile.

  • Marina is loyal. Almost to a fault. But I love her for it.

  • She’s become best friends with my sister Ivy and I think this is both great and it scares the crap out of me.

  • She’s so damn smart it’s frightening. I think she could rule the world someday.

  • I like that she has a hearty appetite. No salad and a glass of water for my girl.

  • She likes cars. A lot. As in, they arouse her (and she will kill me for saying that but it’s not like no one knows this because of what happens in TORN).

  • She’s going to make a great mother one day. And I hope that day is soon.
