Blog Tour: Flagger by Laramie Briscoe

Fast Cars

Quarter-miles

Broken homes
Vulnerable hearts

Cash Montgomery likes fast cars, fast women, and living his life only as far as he can see with his own two eyes. There are very few people in his life who he answers to. One of them being his little brother Remington (Remy).

When Cash and Remy are forced to make a life-changing decision they no longer have a place to live, no idea where their next meal is going to come from, or any prospects as to how they will make it. They need help.

That help comes in the form of the Heaven Hill MC and Harper Stillwell.

Harper Stillwell comes with her own set of problems, but when she and Cash Montgomery meet, sparks fly.

None of them know what they’re doing, where they will end up, or how they’ll get there. The only thing they know is that the race for their lives is only beginning—the flag is waving—and they have to hang on for the ride.

Cash Montgomery wishes his life were different; more carefree. One that most college kids enjoy-school; hanging with friends, girls, partying. But since the time he was teenager, he's had to be the man of the house. His brother, Remy, is an asthmatic and has a lot of needs. His medicine is expensive. Cash's mom is a drug addict, she may be clean right now but that can change at any point. So he's had to man up, and do what he has to in order to get the bills paid. His mom just got a promotion at the store she works at, but she doesn't make enough to keep food on the table, a roof over their heads, clothes for Remy and pay for his medical needs. She earns too much for them to get state aid for Remy but too little to provide for them. So Cash races at the Red Trail. An illegal betting track where he is king. Racing and quick hookups are the only pleasures he allows himself. He has a strong ally in the Heaven Hill MC's. He became friends with
their members and these guys are loyal to a fault. They have his back, know his situation and do what they can to help him out.

Harper Stillwell is in college and determined to make something of herself. Her aunt has been her guardian since she was a little kid. Her dad made the brilliant move of robbing a convenience store with her in the car. Only it went down badly and he ended up in prison doing some hard time.

Cash and Harper first meet when Cash is late for class and ends up cutting off Harper in the parking lot. He gets her attention that's for sure.

"Hey, asshole! That was my spot!"
"Sorry, sweet cheeks, but I gotta get to this class on time, or they're going to kick me out. Next time, I'll save you this spot."

When her friend Natalie, drags her to a race at Red Bird Trail that same night, she finally gets to see who the hot guy is that has all the girls wearing dental floss for clothing, hoping to catch his eye. When the cops raid the race, Cash pulls Harper into his car to get them away. The two end up hanging out and learning they have more in common than they would have thought.

"What are you sayin' to me?"
I'm saying I have responsibilities too, ones that weigh me down and never allow me to have any fun. I think you and I could have some fun together."
"No strings?"
"I don't want strings. I'm nineteen; I just wanna have a good time. Like you, i have people who count on me, but sometimes, i want to throw caution to the wind and let my freak flag fly, so to speak."

Circumstances are going to cause both their living conditions to dramatically change. Cash has to make the tough decision to leave his house and take his brother with him. Harper's aunt chooses her father over her and she is also forced to move out. But neither one of these two can afford a place of their own. They have been casually hooking up, but is that the basis to become roommates?

This is a new three part series from Laramie Briscoe. So this first installment ends on a cliffy. Cash has his hands full with his brother, but his mother is going to make him miserable and threaten his brother's safety. We are left with these two fighting their feelings for each other, in spite of the fact that they have to rely on each other just to survive.

Without knowing it, a stolen parking spot had given him the one thing he'd been missing in his life.

“What’s it doing?” he asked, as he walked over and leaned down, kissing her on the cheek.

Allowing herself to melt into his body for a few moments, she shook her head. “Nothing.”

Cash grabbed hold of her waist and pushed her far enough away he could look her in the eyes. “How old is the battery?”

“I have no idea,” she admitted, her face turning red.

She was cute in her embarrassment, and he had to laugh. “Pop the hood for me.”

When she didn’t move, he raised an eyebrow at her. “You do know how to do that, right?”

Harper bit her bottom lip and shook her head, giggling. “No.”

“You’re lucky you’re hot as hell and can cook a mean fuckin’ cake,” he joked as he walked around to the driver’s side and reached in, popping the hood.

“I have my talents.” She winked.

“You do have that,” he agreed.
