One night, a routine traffic stop turned the world I thought I knew upside down. I wasn’t who I thought I was. No one was. I had been kidnapped when I was young, and everything I had been told was all a lie. But the lies didn’t end there. If it hadn’t been for Lincoln Hunt, I might not have ever found out the truth.
My real name is Danielle Tucker.
This is my story of pain, betrayal, and finding the true meaning of home.
4 Star Review by Jen Skewes
Home No More is the first book that I have read by this
author and I loved it. I was completely
engrossed in this book from beginning to end.
I needed to know what happened next, I needed answers to all of the
questions that were in my head. But most
of all I needed to see that everything worked out for Danielle/Kendall
In Kendall’s mind she had a good childhood. She was raised by a man that loved her and
took care of her and she had a step brother who was her protector. But one night she gets pulled over for a
busted tail light and in that moment her world just shatters. What happens when you find out that your life
has been nothing but lies? That you
aren’t the person that you thought you were?
How do you move on? Or can you?
Six months before her 18th birthday Kendall finds
out that she was kidnapped by John when she was three years old and her real name is Dnielle. And since she is still underage she is sent
to live with her grandmother. She
doesn’t want to be there, she wants to be back home with Billy, the love of her life, where she belongs. She doesn’t want to get to know these people
just because they are blood. She is
bitter and angry but at the same time so confused by everything that is going
on. Kendall is still having a hard time letting go of her past. She is still having a hard time understanding
it all. At times she wants to know all
about her parents but at the same time is afraid to. She then meets Linc, her next door neighbor
and she finds something in Linc that she has never had, a friendship. Linc is someone who is there for her in so
many ways. When she needs to go back to
see Billy, when she needs to meet people to find more info about what really
happened that night and who her parents really were. Their friendship starts to turn into
something more but Kendall is still stuck in the past, still stuck on
Billy. When all of the truths come out
will she be able to move on from it all and have a future with Linc?
This story was so different than anything that I have read
before. Kendall was a tough character to
like in the beginning. She was very
indecisive at times but I understood it.
John was the only father figure that she had. Billy was her protector and the boy she fell
in love with. They were all she had and
all she knew. She didn’t have any other
friends or family to love. So to find
out that everything she though she knew was a lie was hard for her to
accept. She could not accept that John
was a bad guy or the fact that now that the truth came out Billy is
pushing her away. Billy was the love of
her life but for reasons that she does not understand, he is trying to push her
away. But she is trying so hard to hold
onto him and her past life and as a result missing what is right in front of
her. A grandmother who loves her and an
amazing boy named Linc. Her guilt eats
at her for so many reasons. She wants to
love Linc but doing so causes her guilt over Billy. She wants to hate her grandmother but at
times feels bad for her and starts to feel for her. But she is so conflicted when it comes to her
emotions. So because of this she became
very frustrating and made decisions that weren’t always the best but again I
understood it.
Linc was an amazing boy and to be honest it felt like he was
wise beyond his years. At only 18 years
old he was very mature. I love how he
was there to stand by Kendall and help her through it all.
This story takes you into the mind of a young girl who
suddenly discovers that she is not who she thought. And I think that Leddy Harper did an amazing
job with this story. I cannot imagine
going out one day to find out that it was all a lie. How do you even handle that? I think Kendall did it the best way that she
could. And as time went by she
discovered who she truly was and who she wanted to be.
This book had me on the edge of my seat. I needed to now what happened that night,
what happened to her parents and exactly what it was that Billy was
hiding. There were moments where my
heart was beating out of my chest and I was not even sure how it would all
end. Because for a moment I really was
not sure where she would end up. I
wondered if her decisions would cost her everything. Would she go back to her past of move on from
it? Overall I loved this book. There were one or two things that I felt I
still needed some answers to but other than that Ms. Harper did a fantastic
job. And I loved the epilogue. It tied it all together and helped you
understand what really happened. And
truthfully I think I saw things in a different way after reading it.
Just as a side note I really liked her Uncle Jack. I wanted so much more of him in the end. I knew how much he loved that little girl
that she once was and blamed himself. I
do hope that we get his story. I would
love to see him find happiness and really get inside his head. I will keep my fingers crossed.
Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child. She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never stopped.
She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters.
She is now a mother of three girls, leaving her husband as the only man in a house full of females.
The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.
