Review by Jen Skewes

I don’t even know where to start with this review.  From the moment I started reading I did not want to put this book down. I think I devoured this book in a 24 hour period because I just could not let go of it.  This book brought out so many emotions in me and at times I wanted to curse Ms. Harper because of how she made me feel, the angst that I had to go through.  At times my heart just broke and I felt like she was slowly trying to kill me, with the anticipation of how this story would end.  Because at times I really wasn’t sure myself.

Dane is this man who is everything that you want in a lover, fiance, best friend and boss.  He is this amazing guy that will give you the shirt off of his back will sacrifice his own happiness to make others happy.  And you see this side of him in spades.  Dane has been in a relationship with Gabi for more than 10 years.  He loves her but for the longest time he has not been happy.  He has been barely living, giving up his own life to protect and care for her.  He has given so much to this woman and yet has not received much in return. He knew something had to change but he also made a promise that he intended to keep.  I think in a way he was content with his life.  Until Eden showed up and brought the light back into his life, the smile back to his face.  With Eden in his life as a friend she brought a whole new perspective to how things have been in his life.  But Dane has a tough decision to make, give it all up and continue to live a life filled with dark moments or for once put himself first and find the happiness he deserves.

This book was a roller coaster of emotions for me. My heart hurt so much for Dane because this poor man was such a really good person. But I think that there are people out there whose good nature can also be their downfall.  They can be too good to a fault.  Dane was a good guy, so much to the point that he sacrificed his own happiness, and life because he was loyal.  I loved that about him but at times I was so mad at him for it as well.  I wanted to see him put Dane first and do what would make him happy, what would bring him back to life.  But I also understood his loyalty and his reasons for being that way.

It is so hard to go into how I felt about both Gabi and Eden without giving too much of the story away.  I felt for Gabi I really did but the truth is I didn’t feel as bad for her as I probably should have.  For me it was Eden and Dane who had my heart and it was their feelings and their story that also broke it.   God I wanted nothing more than to see the two of them together and happy and crating a future together.  But there was so many struggles in the way.  Ms. Harper did not make anything easy on these characters, not their decisions, their love, their guilt.  No, nothing about this story was easy.  It took a lot of strength, pain, and hurt to get to a happy place.  And in the end it was beautiful to see how it all came together.

This story deals with some very heavy topics but I think that Leddy Harper handled them perfectly.  The words written on the page, the feelings and emotions that these characters went through was something that felt from the moment that I started reading until the very end.  This story wasn’t just about Dane and Eden, it was so much more than that.  It was a truly beautiful and real story about healing, love, friendship, and most of all hope.  It had it’s moments of heartbreak and moments that will take you by surprise.  But in the end Ms. Harper managed to put every part of my heart back together again.  Another amazing job
