Just Love by Prescott Lane
Release Date: July 9, 2019
Just Love, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by Prescott Lane.
There’s two sides to every love story. The how you fell in love, and the how you fell apart.
This is ours.
The cardinal rule of friendship is you don’t mess with your friend’s sister.
That goes double when she’s his little sister.
It was just supposed to be fun.
She wasn’t supposed to end up being the love of my life.
And I definitely wasn’t supposed to break her heart.
Ainsley is a wedding dress designer. That should’ve been a warning that she’s a hopeless romantic. That should’ve clued me in that she believes love conquers all.
But there are some things that love can’t fix. I’m one of them.
She thinks love is the answer.
But love is the reason I let her go.
A stand-alone, contemporary romance.

Review by Jen Skewes

I have read just about all of Prescott Lane's books and loved them all.  There are books of hers that make you laugh some that take you on an emotional ride, some that break your heart, and while they may all be different in their own way, her stories aways manage to capture you from the very beginning.  Just Love is a little different, I think both from what I have read and what Ms. Lane has written.  And I mean that in a really good way.  You still feel all the feels and are sucked in from the very beginning.  It took me on an emotional ride from start to finish and I loved every second of it.
This is a second chance romance of sorts.  I only say that because honestly I think there is so much more to this story than that.  Just Love starts in the present with Rhett's thoughts.  We find out that him and Ainsley, the love of his life, are no longer together.  All we know is that he pushed her away but we don't know why.  Something tore them part and I couldn't wait to find out.

Ms. Lane then takes us on a journey back to the past to see how their love story began.  How Rhett came to fall in love with his best friend's sister.  Seeing the two of them go from friends to lovers was beautiful to watch but you knew that something ultimately broke them apart, and the entire time you are trying to guess what it was.  The story goes back and forth from past to present, never once feeling lost along the way.  It flowed perfectly and you could in some ways see the connection between the past part of the story to the present.  I am not sure if that a makes sense but when you read the book it will.

At some point in the story you do find out what happens and it will break your heart.  It was not what I expected.  As I watched their love story unfold it broke my heart to know that they weren't together, but I think knowing the truth broke me even more.  Seeing the two of them coping with the aftermath of their break-up, dealing with seeing each other for the first time in over a year.  And most importantly trying to find their way back to each other was just as beautiful to watch as their blossoming love.  It was a hard road back to each other, one filled with a lot of pain, but in the end it is all worth it because your heart will be pieced perfectly together again.  For me the moment when Rhett finally opens up, the moment you see that he is truly all in, heart and soul was everything!!  It was such a special moment, including what happened next.  It was absolutely perfect.

At the end of this book Ms. Lane writes about her experience in writing this book and her thoughts on it.  I just want to say how much I applaud her for writing this book and how perfectly written it was.  It flowed flawlessly, and everything about this book felt real.  When I review a book I usually go into more detail about the plot and the characters and my feelings on both.  But this book doesn't need a recap at all.  It is one of those books that you just need to go in blind and savor every moment, every word and just feel every emotion.  Trust me, you will thank me in the end.  A beautiful love story!!!

Excerpt:
I knew the kind of guy Rhett was. I knew serious wasn’t his thing. I knew using the word love usually sent him running for the hills. I knew it, and I did it anyway.

But he wasn’t that guy with me. He and I were different. I know he loved me.

I’ve loved that man since I was fifteen years old. How could I not? Forget the abs, the tan skin, those pale, sexy blue eyes. Forget the fact that his voice sends shivers down my spine. The first time we kissed, I felt my whole world shatter and fall into place at the same time.

I tried to pretend to be “that” girl. The kind that can kiss a guy just for fun, screw a man and not imagine a life with him. I tried. I failed. The hopeless romantic in me wasn’t having it.

My heart should’ve known better — but my heart was no match for Rhett Bennett.

When Rhett and I fell apart, I broke up with social media. I have to say, that breakup was a lot easier. No hashtags, no emojis, no memes to post. Some people use social media as their therapist. I’ve seen people post play-by-plays of their divorce, or explain every detail of their latest illness or drama. I probably could’ve attracted a lot more followers if I chronicled the demise of our relationship. It’s the stuff of soap operas.

But instead, I broke it off with Facebook, banned Instagram, and boycotted Twitter.

Today, Facebook and I are having one last romp. Relationship status update: Single.

That’s it. That one little change. I have to start somewhere. Skye’s right about that.

The one part of being single I have embraced is the diet. The single woman diet consists of basically any breakfast food for dinner, coffee, and alcohol. I’ve gotten so good at it, I no longer need a grocery cart when I shop. Quick tip, don’t get a cart at the grocery store, only buy what you can hold. It’s good for the budget and the waistline. Unfortunately, that rule doesn’t work so well at clothing stores.
