Book Blurb:
Evil is coming. A dark malevolence the likes of which this world has never seen, and it comes straight from the depths of Hell. Darkness meant to destroy. A prophecy I am fated to fulfill but will most likely not survive. Through it all, Carrick Byrne has stood strong by my side. Something has deeply changed between me and the man I once despised, and all it took was a kiss of provocation for both of us to feel it. I know deep in my soul we’re being guided by destiny, but I don’t know if I can trust it. Carrick is holding something back, and I fear the consequences could be deadly once his truth is revealed. We’re not ready, but calamity waits for no woman. I have discovered a power within myself I must learn to master. A new connection in the Underworld has been revealed to me, one that I hope is friend but is just as likely foe. We are in a race against time as we try to figure out how to stop the end of the world from occurring. The battle is coming, and I can only hope we’re prepared for what happens next. The Evolution of Fae and Gods is book three of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and is best enjoyed if read in series order.

Review by Trinette Dungee
At the end of Book 3 (Secrets and Fate), Finely is facing death from what was once her twin sister Fallon. This book opens with Carrick coming to Finley’s rescue, and in this book, relationship for the two takes a new direction.
So, this is going to have to be short and sweet, because I feel like if I could ruin some of the discoveries for other readers. During this book, the connection between Finley and Carrick grows stronger, and it answers a lot of my questions as well as confirms some theories I have. When you have a cliffhanger series of more than two or three books, you always have that one book that really starts having things click into place and really absorbs you into the story. This was that book for me. I enjoyed the first two, but this was the one that really has a lot of “the meat”. We also get to not only see more of Carrick, but we get more of his PoV (I’m still curious as to why his POV is third person as opposed to first person like Finely) and learn more about him and his desire to ascend. For me, Carrick became more an actual man/person and less mystical. I mentioned before how, the romantic relationship between the two wasn’t really a priority for me during this storyline, but more solving the mystery of this prophecy…well, as much as I loved the development of their relationship, I’m still more interested in the prophecy! LOL.
What I really liked about the coming together of these two, was that it didn’t take away from the overall story. Typically, when this happens, suddenly the new relationship is the focus and what was once the main story takes a backseat. That didn’t happen here. We get more intimacy from Finley and Carrick but preparing for the prophecy still leads the story.
Finley gains more knowledge of her true twin, who has been raised in the Underworld. She also learns that there is a connection between the two of them, although her twin is not so elated about the connection. The dark force that took over Fallon, now has a name and her plan is learned. This knowledge takes Finley and Carrick back to Faere, among other places, where Finley is now starting to tap into unknown powers.
The “Circle” is pretty much solidified as well during this book. Finley’s group consists of Carrick, Lucien, Maddox, Titus, Zaid, Rainey, and Myles. They each have their roles in protecting Finely and preparing for the “big showdown”, when it occurs now that they know what it is. We get more info on the other players in this book. We learn more about Zaid’s past and his devotion to Carrick. I’m happy that Rainey and Myles have such important roles in this series. I was afraid they would be those characters that are there but only on the peripheral and don’t have much to do with what’s going on.
With that being said, Myles worries me. I don’t know what it is, but I just feel like he might could be a wild card before this is all over. Rainey is proving to be very interesting. At one point my mind was going to her possibly being more involved in this supernatural world on a regular basis. Arwen, the Scryer, once told Finley the end of the Prophecy would result in her paying a “great price”. Everyone naturally assumes it would mean her death. I am not too sure of that. There are so many things that come to light in this book that it could be any number of things.
Two of the biggest questions I had from the last two books were: why did Carrick have the reaction he did when he first met Finley? At one point he basically says, Finley missed his initial reaction of shock, right there is where I solidly formed my theory which was confirmed in this book. The other was, why did the God Rune dislike him so much; this was also answered.
So far this is my favorite book in the series. For me all, or most of, the characters are completely developed. There isn’t too much mystery surrounding them (except Maddox and Lucien, I could still use a little more info on them, but that’s just me being nosey). I most definitely enjoyed Carrick more in this book, they guy even has a little bit of a sense of humor. Like I mentioned, he because more human in this book. Like the scene were Rainey is cooking and he’s a little on the hungry side and she keeps getting sidetracked listening to a story. I don’t know why but it made me giggle. I also discovered that I love Maddox, that guy is way cool.
