Review by Jen Skewes

I am a huge fan of Natasha Knight. This is the first book that I have read from this writing duo and wow!! I love the dark angst reads that Ms. Knight knows how to deliver so well. But this book took it to a whole new level and I absolutely loved it. Does that make me a little insane? Quite possibly 😃

Santiago is out for revenge. He’s been plotting this revenge since his father and brother died in an explosion, the same one that he managed to escape, all not not without being scarred. Both physically and emotionally. How will he get his revenge? By marrying the daughter of the man responsible. But it’s not just about marrying her it’s about the slow torture that she will endure.

Ivy Moreno is summoned back home by her half brother who is nothing of what a brother should be. But that’s a whole other story. She’s been in school and living her life until he shows up, with the news that she is to be married in two days, against her will. It’s not uncommon for an arranged marriage between a man of Society and and the woman that is chosen for him. But for Ivy she was hoping for a different direction in her life and not to mention the fact that this was completely in expected. Marrying Santiago is not really a choice. She must submit to him in order to save herself and her sister. She just has no idea why he chose her and what being married to him will truly mean.

Ivy is tough and defiant when she feels the need to be and tries so hard not to show her weaknesses. Santiago is a bitter angry man who will stop at nothing to humiliate and torture Ivy. But you do see a little bit of concern from him at certain moments. There are times when you see that he actually cares about Ivy, albeit very short moments but they are there. And despite all that there’s a party of her that feels safe with him.

This book is definitely not for the faint of the heart. There are
Moments that will completely test your limits. They will make you hate Santiago but in the next moment love him. When I say that this book was taken to the next level I mean it. While I have not read any of A. zavarelli’s books I have read plenty of Ms. Knight’s. And this book certainly tested my morals and my comfort zone. But in a really good way. It is dark, intense, raw and gritty. You will have a love/hate relationship with Santiago. It will completely tot with your emotions. Holding that breath that you don’t even realize you are joking until the very end. I want to say that at the end of the book I was finally able to let it go but this is a trilogy. And we are left with a cliffhanger that will leave you wanting so much more. No scratch that. You will be left needing more. Thankfully it won’t be long until we find out what comes next. Am I scared? Absolutely? But that just means that this writing duo did an amazing job!! They left me needing more in a way that scares me and thrills me at the same time.
