Ashton Hayes has a group of friends who are more like brothers. Leo's story was the first in this series- The Kiss. But Sawyer and Cain will have their turn too. For now, Ashton's up at bat and this is his game.
When they were in their mid teens, Cain's parents divorced. It hurt him to the core and the other guys came up with a pact, one where no girl would ever come before their friendship. The Playboy Pact (yes, they are all had big egos and inflated senses of self worth.
That same night, Ashton met Sage at a party. Her boyfriend, Memphis, had just broken up with her. Her good friend Aspyn, urges her to celebrate, to have a good time-it's her Sweet Sixteen birthday and not one to miss. Ashton is a little god-smacked at meeting Sage-there's some connection there. He's all for bedding a chick, but not dating one-remember the pact they all just made?
It's just not their time. Memphis shows up, Sage goes with him. That same night is an almost comical set of circumstances, Sage got pregnant. Yep, she 16 and knocked up and Memphis is not exactly father material. Make Sage's a double-she's pregnant with twins. But she has strong, supportive parents, a best friend who always has her back and a brother who will help her with this unexpected curve ball. Or should I say curve balls?
Sage was able to graduate, and even went to college, where she just earned her teaching degree. Fast forward eight years later and she has seven-year-old twins-Haiden and Haven. Life has been tough for this single mom. Memphis sends a check, but he's never been part of the kids' lives and Sage has been burnt enough for her lifetime.
But through a chance meeting-speed dating no less, Ashton and Sage meet again. It's been eight years, but it might as well have been eight days, because that chemistry, that invisible string is still pulling them together. Ashton is a much older and wiser guy and he's not about to let this opportunity go. Sage knows about men who have no interest in dating a woman with kids. No one will come before her babies and she's not about to let Ashton know about them, yet alone meet her kids. She won't risk another man letting them down.
That's the background story that is covered early in the story. These two might be crazy about each other, but if their foundation is based on lies and truths not told, how can they ever have a real relationship? That's for the reader to find out!
I liked The Fling. I thought there were times, especially when Ashton would still refer to his friends as "his boys" that he came across as a little immature. But he is a good guy. Sage's daughter is a sweetheart, but her son is Satan's spawn. His actions are comical, but man that kid needs some serious Time Out. Ashton has way more patience with him, than I would have.
It's not necessary to read The Kiss first, although knowing more about the characters and their back ground stories just enriches the experience.
Above all, M loves her readers more than anything and loves to connect with them! She is on all social media platforms but you will find her in her happy place the most. Her VIP Reader Group on Facebook or her second favorite happy place, Instagram.
