4 Star review by Jen Hagen

She’s a 33-year-old librarian from Florida.  He’s a 38-year-old satellite installer from New Orleans.  How do these two end up igniting my Kindle with their hot sex when they are worlds apart?  By knowing a mutual friend on Facebook.

Sophia accepts a friend request from Kayden after noticing they have a mutual friend in common.   This begins a conversation between chat windows where they openly talk about themselves and divulge a little too much personal information, since what are the chances that they will regret telling the other too much?  Perhaps Kayden shouldn’t have mentioned that he’s a manwhore and only likes women for the physical relationship and that he isn’t looking for a romantic relationship.  This interferes with trust issues later on down the line.

Sophia and Kayden’s chat windows progress to texts and talks via cell phone and also visual conversations through Skype.  Kayden suggests that perhaps Sophia should come visit him in New Orleans.  Sophia is hesitant at first, but eventually relents.  Once they see other first hand, it’s a full-blown love at first sight moment.

“Your words captured my heart, and I fell in love with you before I ever touched you.  I didn’t want to open my heart to anyone, but you, you seeped into my veins bringing new meaning to my life.  Being with you in person only made my love deeper for you, sealing my fate.” – Kayden

Sophia and Kayden begin a long-distance romantic relationship with frequent trips to see each other.   Kayden is very experienced when it comes to being a lover, and Sophia is happy to have some excitement and expertise added to her lackluster skills, although she does have some insecurities thinking that there will come a time when she won’t be enough for Kayden.  They have a good solid relationship going as they are committed to talking to each other open and honestly several times a day.   One might think that Kayden moved a little too quickly professing his love for Sophia, but he has had a couple terrible relationships and when he finally found something that was solid, he was going stake his claim on it immediately and not let it go.  The saying “balls to the wall” kept going through my head as I would think about how fast they were moving forward with their relationship.

Kayden’s past definitely comes to interfere with their happiness.  He has a crazy ex-girlfriend who is hell bent on getting back together with Kayden.  Kayden’s past also includes alcohol being a strong crutch for him when times get tough and also even when things are going well.  Kayden also had a past addiction to drugs, but seems to be off those at the present.  When things begin to plummet in Kayden’s life, he returns to his one constant friend, the one who has always been there for him…the bottle.   Even from a distance, Sophia is aware of what is happening to Kayden with his downward spiral with alcohol and the separation it is causing in their relationship.

“…everything seemed to be unraveling.  He wrecked me.  Not a quick stab to the heart, but a low dissection with a dull rusty blade.”

Kayden can’t catch a break…one disaster leads to another.  The poor guy is wrecked and forced to lose the strong, independent man that he once was.   Through it all Sophia never wavers in her love for him even though she feels she is the cause for his recent shortcomings.   Kayden is very fortunate to have her love and her standing beside him during his difficult days.  Hopefully her love will be enough to pull him through his darkest days.

“I love you for all of your imperfections.  I love the man you were, are, and will be.  I love you for wanting to be a better man, the way you love me, the way you look at me even after all this time.”
This story is told in alternating points of view (I always love hearing from the male).  I found this to be a quick enjoyable read, and in the author’s notes I see that she is planning to write a prequel to this book evolving around Kayden’s life prior to him meeting Sophia.
About the Author:
I have been a teacher for over ten years, and needed a creative outlet for all my naughty thoughts. I received a bachelors degree in History and a Masters in Education, which led me to becoming a high school history teacher. I love to read, I can devour a book a day, when given the chance or having the time.

I can't pick one favorite book, there are just too many that come to mind. I do have favorite authors though. My top five authors are: Colleen Hoover, S.C. Stephens, Tarryn Fisher, CJ Roberts, and Kele Moon. I agonized over the top five. There are so many fantastic Indie authors that help feed my quest for the next best story.

Writing has been a journey unlike; filled with anguish, love, fear, and creativity. I'm excited for the next step and to share Kayden and Sophia.
