Review: The Other Side of Someday by Carey Heywood

Falling in love? Courtney Grayson has been there, done that.

Men, who needs them? Love wasn’t everything she thought it would be. This time around she’s doing things differently. She hasn’t sworn off men for good, just isn’t interested in settling. Trusting someone with her heart again? Someday, but not today.

Falling in love? Sorry, Clay Bradshaw is not the guy for you.

He’s never been in love and he doesn’t see it happening. Hooking up can be fun, but more often than not, women are a distraction he doesn’t need. He’s a busy man, and doesn’t have time to date, let alone fall in love. Will someone ever change that? There’s always a chance, someday.

Life doesn’t always go as planned, and love may find them both on the other side of someday.

4 Heart Warming Stars

Review by Lisa Kane

Courtney Grayson is having a bad day. When she goes to work she is getting strange looks from her coworkers. After she attends a meeting with the Offenheims and their hotshot son, Grant, she is called into the office manager's office, asked if she stole any of the funds from petty cash. Taken aback, she answers "No" and is told her employment is being terminated. She is humiliated and is escorted out of the office. On her way home, she gets a flat. When she gets the tire changed and runs it through her credit card, it declines. The owner tells her not to worry, that tomorrow things will be better.

She is still so upset, and she drives straight home to the condo she she shares with her boyfriend of 8 years, Mike. His car is in the drive, but so is Stacy Callahan's his boss' daughter. But when she steps inside she hears strange noises. And then a moan. The moan sounds just like the sound Mike makes right before he comes. She leaves a note saying, "You sounded busy." She signs the note, and leaves it with her engagement ring on the counter.

She goes to her mom's house and cries on her shoulder. Her mom is upset about Mike and helps soothe her about the job situation. She has a friend who is a lawyer who will look into things for her. After 3 days of self pity and wallowing, her girlfriend Jen comes to see her and is furious that Mike would do this. Courtney keeps thinking what did she do wrong that he turned to someone else. They've been living together for years and have been engaged for at least 3 of them. Maybe he has been losing interest for a while. Meanwhile, Mike is blowing up her phone with texts and calls. She won't answer them.

Jen decides Courtney needs to embrace her new single state and go out to a jazz club. She reluctantly goes and end up running into Grant Offenheim, the town's golden boy. He remembers that they've met before. He's obviously interested in her and wants to exchange phone numbers. She's not sure if she wants to pursue anything, she can barely figure out what's she doing. She needs to find a job.

The next day she goes back to Pete's, the auto repair place to pay off the tire. Her credit card company flagged her account due to some suspicious activity and that's why her card declined. But when she goes to pay, it's not an old man she sees but a beautiful male specimen who tells her he is Clay, the owner's son. His dad fell and broke his hip and he's filling in for him. These two just might engage in some heavy flirting as they are obviously attracted to one another. Clay seized the opportunity and finds a way to spend some time with her. He actually is running ragged, filling in for his dad, repairing cars, answering the phones. When he learns that Courtney needs a job-it's like Clay's lucky day has arrived!

The two of them dance around each other. Both of them in a weird place in their lives. Clay is somewhat of a computer genius. He has his own business building and maintaining websites and has more work than he can handle. He is also helping to take care of Megan, his 10 year old niece. His sister has major issues and is not parent material. Courtney is struggling to find her own place after so many years of being with Mike. He has been coming to her house begging for another chance. She won't even talk to him and just wants her things that she left behind at the condo.

Meanwhile, she did go out with Grant on a date. She had a great time, but just can't seem to get clay our of her mind. Clay wants nothing more than to keep seeing Courtney inside and outside of work. The two have had some pretty spectacular dates, but Clay is worried that Courtney will keep seeing Grant. Courtney and Clay both feel that what they have is special, and not going to disappear.

Things get really bad with Megan's mom and Clay doesn't think his elderly parents can raise Megan. But if he takes her, is that too much pressure for a new couple to handle? A man claiming to be Megan's father enters the picture, which is a complication with a twist. When the dust settles, will these two still be a couple or cut their losses and run?

This is an easy read, there are lots of secondary characters with intertwining stories, that I can see the possibility for additional stories for this series.
