Synopsis
Livie has always been the stable one of the two Cleary
sisters, handling her parents' tragic death and Kacey's self-destructive phase
with strength and maturity. But underneath that exterior is a little girl
hanging onto the last words her father ever spoke to her. “Make me proud,” he
had said. She promised she would...and she’s done her best over the past seven
years with every choice, with every word, with every action.
Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?
As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.

4.5 Star review
“You seem to be governed by a
life plan. It’s ingrained in your daily routines; it’s almost like a religion
for you. It has dictated the choices you have made so far and those you plan to
make in the future. You don’t questions it, you don’t test it. You just do it.”
Although
younger, Livie was the stable one when it came to her and Kacey. After their
parents’ tragic death her older sister went into a self- destructive mode to
deal with the pain and the loss. Now that her sister is happy and back on the
right path it is Livie’s turn for some self- discovery. Accepted to Princeton,
Livie does her best to live up to the last words her father spoke to her which
were, “Make me proud.” The past seven years she has made sure that every single
move she made was perfect.
Walking onto Princeton’s campus Livie has it all planned
out: get good grades, get into medical school and find a good, respectable man
that is marriage worthy. The things Livie doesn’t put on the list-have
fun and be yourself. What she wasn’t planning on was Kacey and Dr. Stayner
teaming up to make sure she acts like a typical 18 year old. You know- make a
few bad choices, get drunk, make some mistakes but mostly to have fun.
“What’s wrong, Irish?” Irish. My head snaps back. “What did you call
me?” He smirks, his hand resting on the ladder rung, seemingly comfortable in
his currently lack of covering. “You don’t remember much from last night, do
you?”
“If it explains why we’re all in
a room together and you’re naked......then no.”
While at a party with her sister and her new roommate Reagan,
Livie is living it up and just as she is about to take her jello shot, the
captain of the men’s rowing team swoops in and steals the shot right from her
mouth! Pissed off Livie does the one thing her sister taught her- she punches
him in the face and hard.
“Because you’re not a one night
girl, Irish.” Leaning in to place a kiss on my jawline, he whispers, “You’re my
forever girl.”
Ashton is the known playboy on campus. He is gorgeous,
arrogant and seems to bring out the best and the worst in Livie. He is the complete
opposite of what she is looking for in a guy but she can’t seem to stop
thinking about him and the kiss they shared. Why oh why is this guy stuck in
her thoughts?
He regrets me. The man whore
regrets messing around with me. Enough to track me down and ask that I not tell
anyone. He even felt bad when he let that fact slip. That’s what that cringe
was. It iwas one thing when I was regretting him.
When she meets Conner, he is everything parents would want
for their daughter. Handsome, charming, smart, a solid career (pre-law) and comes
from a good family. The problem is that he is best friends and roommates with
Ashton. She tells herself, avoid Ashton at all costs. This proves to be easier
said than done.
“Connor asked that I make you
like me,” Ashton casually says, easing his tight grip on my hips so that I’m
not pressed directly against his erection, allowing me to breathe again.
Accepting the inevitable, Livie and Ashton become friends.
Ashton is able to tell her things he hasn’t told anyone about and Livie finds
herself falling hard for him. Their feelings for each other grow stronger. While
Ashton deals with his demons, Livie stuggles to find herself. Lines gets
crossed, truths are told and hearts are broken.
I have to let go of everything.
And so I walk away.
I walk away from the voices, the shouts, the disappointment.
I walk away from my deceptions, my mistakes, my regrets.
I walk away from all that I am supposed to be and all that I cannot be.
For all of it is a lie.
This story was fantastic. Livie was the one in Ten Tiny
Breaths that was put together; smart, extremely beautiful. As we all know
looks can be deceiving. Nothing is ever as it seems. Livie has her own demons
she struggles with. She has her life mapped out for her but when those bumps in
the road appear and throw Livie off track, she is confused. Her heart keeps
overriding her brain. Coming to terms that she has been lying to herself, the
biggest challenge she faces is figuring out who she really wants to be.
Ashton... OMG, I absolutely loved him. Aside from being
gorgeous and arrogant, he has the biggest heart. He does anything and
everything for Livie, even when he knows what the outcome will be but not by
his choice. He tries to stay away from her but he can’t. She has captured his
heart but due to his past, he can’t follow it or can he?
“Irish, if there’s one thing I’ve
never been able to forget, it’s a single second with you.”
Both are prisoners of their own lives, one by choice and the other by force. This story is about finding yourself, learning from
mistakes. Being strong enough to make your life your own and face those demons.
The emotions that this story brought out,;laughter, tears,
heartache, love, fear and peace!
K.A. Tucker created such wonderful and strong characters and
such heart achingly beautiful stories.
This is definitely a must read and tops my list of BESTS for
2013!
