4.5 Star Review by Jen Hagen
I’m a little late in discovering Bastian…I just read the
first book “Surviving Raine” a year after its release. I must have been covered by a rock during
that time because in all things that are alpha and hot, Bastian has got those
covered 110%. I seriously don’t know how
I could have made the huge error in not reading him sooner. Now I’ve had the pleasure of reading about
him not only once but now TWICE and holy macaroni he is still alpha male in his
second book.
Bastian and Raine are now residing in Miami where Raine
is taking college courses and Bastian is just trying to adjust to everyday
living without taking a drink of alcohol, as Raine has made it perfectly clear
that she will not stay with him if he resorts back to his old ways of
drinking. Bastien doesn’t know how to exist
with Raine without being stranded on their island. In his eyes, he sees nothing wrong with
wanting to go back even for a weekend to “their” island.
“I don’t know how
to do this,” I whispered against Raine’s hair.
“I don’t know how to be us here.”
I felt so bad for Bastian. Here he is the strongest alpha male who can
survive in any condition, not knowing how to co-exist with sobriety and
happiness. He loves Raine so much and
doesn’t want to share her with anybody or anything. He wants her sole attention to be on him and
vice versa. He loves so strongly but yet
feels so weak when it comes to Raine.
She could bring him to his knees if she would ever leave him. His previous life included training to
survive his “tournaments” and after that he had his ship to navigate. Now he has nothing to keep him busy and he
struggles on a daily basis on where he fits in with his new life that includes
Raine.
“What am I supposed
to do around here?” I mumbled. “Just be
the f*cking errand boy? Got some light
bulbs that need changing?”
Bastian should learn to accept the calmness, but before
he is given the opportunity to fully embrace it his previous life comes back to
haunt him. He is being pulled in as a
“favor” to assist the crime lord boss that he testified against. He really has no choice in the matter…Bastian
isn’t exactly staying out of sight since his and Raine’s name were all the
media after being rescued. If they
wanted retaliation, Bastian would be easy to find. Bastian is called in for one last fight and
guess who he is going up against?? Evan
Arden from another of the author’s series.
Again, I have not read any of his books but after meeting him in this
book I believe I should probably know a little more about Evan.
I don’t think I could choose which book I enjoyed more in
the series; Surviving Raine versus Bastian’s Storm would result in a tie. This book brought along more suspense which
definitely kept my pulse racing. I mean who
wouldn’t feel their heart beating faster while reading about a tournament where
the winner is the last survivor standing.
What happens if the last 2 competitors don’t make it out alive?
There was no way I
was going to be able to get out of this without help, and as much as I didn’t
want to admit it, I was done…This was going to be an all losers tournament.
The interaction between Evan and Bastian is not only
competitive but there is also a level of humor between their dialogue. They are at each other’s mercy while being a
stone’s throw away from each other but yet neither is capable of offing the
other one. Evan comes up with a plan…”How about we make a deal?”
Bastian has never felt comfortable placing his fate in
somebody else’s hands. He is used to
being the one calling the shots. Is
Evan’s deal for real? Will Bastian come
out alive?
Bastian is big, brooding, bold but yet so mushy on the
inside. I loved how he still tucked
Raine under him at night and whenever Raine needed comfort he could tell her
the words that made us all fall for Bastian “I’ve
got you.”
