Review: Blyssful Lies by J.C. Cliff

Learning how to survive in her new world, Julianna has no choice but to play “The game of Life.” Except it's Nick's game, and his rules apply. Captivity, drugs, and submission are the cards that are dealt, and it's a losing game.

Biding her time as she waits for her rescuers, it's far from smooth sailing, because all too quickly the rules abruptly change as Nick takes matters into his own hands…

As the drama unfolds, and hesitating to interfere, Travis has everything to lose should he decide to step in, including his life.
It's opposition at its finest – freedom versus control as Nick and Julianna face the ultimate battle of wills.

While Travis has the uncanny ability to manipulate her with a single touch, Nick struggles to conquer her body, mind, and soul.

It's every man for themselves as each have their own secret agenda, including Julianna, whose plan is simple: survive.

Review by Jen Hagen

This is the second installment in the Blyss series, and it has taken a new direction in its storyline.  The first book took a while for me to get involved, but this one has drawn me in from the very beginning.  It started out quickly, keeps the story moving throughout, and the ending has you wanting more…which you won’t get until book 3. Julianna has been in the hands of Nick and his co-conspirators for 2 weeks now, having been kidnapped from her home and pumped full of mind-altering sexual-enhancing drugs.
This time around we get to see a little more to Nick than just giving the orders.  Nick, in his own twisted mind, has loved Julianna for years and has been waiting for the time to be right.

“I knew I had to have you the minute I saw you.  I realized in an instant I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you, but I had to wait.  I wanted the rest of my life to start seven years ago, but I am looking forward to playing catch up.”

The beginning part of the book focuses on Nick and his hands-on attention towards Julianna.  Previously it had been Travis providing Julianna with “training” but Travis is absent during this time period.   Nick’s idea of training isn’t as gentle as Travis’s and Julianna knows the right buttons to push to get Nick riled up.

“You’ve accomplished something today only a few select few could’ve ever hoped to do in their lifetimes and live to tell about it.”

I was just starting to ease my preconceived notions about Nick being a controlling pompous jerk, when he went and showed that a tiger can’t hide his stripes.  Travis is not able to swoop in and save Julianna from Nick’s anger.  Travis arrives after the fact and sees what a mess Nick left behind.   Travis is hesitant to save Julianna for fear of retaliation on not only him, but also Julianna.  In the end Travis’s heart takes over and he presides over Julianna’s safety.

“You’re going to be all right.  I’ve got you.”

I love Travis’s “I’ve got you” references.  He truly does love Julianna and everything he is doing to protect her is for her benefit, even if it means lying to her.  There still are questions regarding Travis’s past.  We know he is ex-military and from the information given in this book, he is an expert at covering his tracks and evading capture.  There are also a couple references given to him being in love once before.  This is what really has me interested in his back story.  There is still so much of Travis that is unknown and  I am excited for book 3 and the revelations that will answer my questions.

Words don’t even need to be spoken to pronounce Travis and Julianna’s love for one another…

The feelings and emotions he was able to stir within me when we joined for the first time was earth-shattering.  It’s as if we were fated from the beginning to be together.

But the ending…GAH!!  My heart will be racing before I even start the first page of the next book.
